The summit of the Black Rock and its 2,330 m elevation serve as the starting points for numerous hiking trails. Just a short walk away, you can explore the Redoute Fort and its breathtaking view of the Petit St. Bernard Pass as well as on the Mont Blanc. You can then walk back down via the Chemin des Militaires and enjoy the view of the Combe des Moulins. More experienced hikers can follow the ridge by taking the Crête des Embrasures Trail, and continue on until the climb up the Valaisan Mountain at an altitude of 2,891 meters.

How Can You Make Sure You're Properly Equipped for a Hike?
The mountains are a harsh environment where conditions can change rapidly. To avoid any disappointments and make sure you get the most out of your trip, here are some practical tips to help you remember all the "essentials" to pack for your hike!
Good shoes : Walking for kilometers can really take a toll! Investing in a good pair of walking shoes ensures you'll have an enjoyable hike.
Water : We can't say it enough: you need to stay hydrated! Water, water, and more water...
A rain jacket and a cap : Conditions can change very quickly at high altitudes, so Check the weather Before you leave, be prepared for both rain and sunshine.
A snack: Hiking up the peaks really works up an appetite! And to be honest, there's nothing better than a little cheese and sausage to cap off a great climb.
Sunscreen: The sun is intense at high altitudes, even when it's playing hide-and-seek. So don't get caught off guard—make sure to protect yourself with sunscreen.
A camera: Yeah, it really is beautiful up there... It would be a shame not to capture these magnificent landscapes or those marmots peeking their heads out.
Dogs, even on a leash, are not allowed on the ski lifts at La Rosière*. Their presence could disrupt our mountain ecosystem (destruction of nests, spread of germs, etc.).
* With the exception of livestock guard dogs and service dogs for people with disabilities.
