La Rosière modernizes

The La Rosière Ski Area and the SOFIVAL Group are investing to modernize the lift network and improve the customer experience, whatever the season.

Every year, the Domaine Skiable de La Rosière makes major investments to modernize its infrastructure, in addition to maintenance, slopes safety work and improvements to the artificial snow network...

La Rosière, this Winter 2024-25...

New Chardonnet chairlift

By December 2024, the Domaine Skiable de La Rosière will replace the fixed-grip 3-seater chairlift at Chardonnet, on the Col du Petit Saint-Bernard sector, with a detachable 6-seater chairlift.

This lift is strategic, as it provides the link between La Rosière (France) and La Thuile (Italy).

The project:

To replace the Chardonnet chairlift, Domaine Skiable de La Rosière is investing €9 million (excluding VAT). Work began in May 2024, and the new detachable 6-seater chairlift due to come into service in the 2024-2025 ski season.

The advantages of the new Chardonnet chairlift :

  • A smoother France-Italy link: located in the Col de Petit Saint-Bernard sector, close to the Franco-Italian border, the Chardonnet chairlift is an unavoidable lift for Espace San Bernardo skiers. With a capacity of 3,000 people per hour and a speed of 5.5 meters per second, the new chairlift will help to better manage the flow of skiers in this area.
  • More modern equipment: the future machine will benefit from all the technological advances of recent years, in terms of both reliability and performance. To ensure this, the Domaine Skiable de La Rosière has called on the expertise of French company POMA.
  • Increased safety: the 6-seater Chardonnet chairlift will be able to transport injured skiers in small boats. It will also be accessible in the downhill direction for skiers who are not confident on the Bouquetin red run.

A look back at Winter 2023-24 ...

Dahu chairlift

In December 2023, the new Dahu fixed-grip 4-seater chairlift, which replaces the eponymous ski lift, will be in service.

Located on the Les Eucherts snow front, the new lift represents a significant leap forward in terms of modernity and customer experience.

Replacing the old Dahu ski lift with a fixed-grip 4-seater chairlift required an investment of €3.2 million, excluding VAT, and took over six months to complete. The project, conceived several months in advance, was completed in the spring of 2023, with work starting in the summer of 2023 and finishing just before the opening of the ski area.

The advantages of the new Dahu chairlift :

  • Optimized access to the heart of the ski area: from now on, the new Dahu chairlift will allow skiers to join the Plan du Repos chairlift, thus providing new access to the entire Espace San Bernardo from the Les Eucherts snow front. As a bonus, the departure station will be equipped with public toilets (opening: Winter 2024/25).
  • Increased throughput: by upgrading from a surface lift to a 4-seater chairlift, Dahu has increased its throughput by a factor of 3. Today, it's ready to transport around 2,000 people/hour!  That means less waiting and more time on the slopes.
  • More comfort and space for beginners: the new Dahu chairlift offers access to two green runs (Dahu and Cabri) and two blue runs (Gelinotte and Marmottons). It is always included in the beginner's ski pass, enabling you to learn to ski at an attractive rate.

A good example of a summer/winter investment

Picnic area in winter & golf practice range in summer

The challenge for the Domaine Skiable de La Rosière in recent years has been to be able to invest in both winter and summer.

This objective has been achieved with the creation, for summer 2023, of a covered golf practice range. This brand-new facility doubles up as a new sheltered picnic area on the La Rosière slopes in winter. Ideally located at the top of the Lièvre Blanc ski lifts, this meeting point serves as a relaxation area, with an electric grill, deckchairs and picnic tables freely accessible!

An investment of €175,000 (excluding VAT), including a €40,000 (excluding VAT) grant from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and a partnership with Grosset Janin, have made this achievement possible!

Investment retrospective

2021 / 2022

Digitalization of ski pass sales

The Domaine Skiable de La Rosière has purchased 2 automatic ski pass purchase and recharging terminals at a cost of €52,000 (excl. VAT). This self-service equipment is located both at the Les Eucherts sales point and in the "Forfait Skipass Express" area, close to the resort's snow front.  They reinforce an investment that will have begun in 2019, with the creation of point de vente 2.0, where you can buy and/or recharge your ski pass autonomously, simply and quickly.

2020 / 2021

Improving the snowmaking network

That year saw the Domaine Skiable de La Rosière invest €2 million ex-VAT to reinforce its artificial snow network. The project was subsidized to the tune of €600,000 ex-VAT by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region. Work focused on the Libellule green run and the Papillon blue run.

2019 / 2020

Improving the customer experience

The customer experience was the watchword for investments made in 2019, with :

  • The creation and layout of the FORFAIT SKIPASS EXPRESS outlet in the extension to the Maison du Ski (61,000€ HT).
  • The creation of the DVA PARK, in collaboration with Evolution2, at the top of the Tétras blue slope (7700€ HT).
  • Installation of a panoramic table at the highest point of the La Rosière ski area, the summit of Mont-Valaisan (2800m) (9700€ HT).

2018 / 2019

Development of the Mont-Valaisan sector

The starting point for the constant improvement of the La Rosière Ski Area was 2018, with the birth of the Mont-Valaisan sector. A colossal investment of €15 million (excluding VAT) will have created 5 new red runs, served by 2 detachable chairlifts with 6 seats each. The Mont-Valaisan sector becomes the new high point of the Domaine Skiable de La Rosière, at 2800m altitude.

Plus d'informations

2017 / 2018

Improving the snowmaking network

Major improvements have been made, and three new single-fluid snow guns have been installed near the Clarines, Lutins and Dahu green runs. At the same time, the instantaneous power of the snow-making plant, i.e. its production capacity, has been improved. The installation of a new pump will have increased the production of water, and therefore of artificial snow, from 400 m3 to 600 m3 per hour. These achievements required a total investment of €740,000 (excluding VAT), subsidized to the tune of €194,500 (excluding VAT) by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region.
